Lomax self-build cars have always been an affordable way to have a car that will give you the great satisfaction of being able to build your own car. Add to this the pure enjoyment of driving a car that is so much fun to drive and just makes you happy to own one. Contrary to what a lot of people think, the Lomax is still available and being manufactured here, in beautiful Dorset.
Designed by Nigel Whall, the Lomax cars are still as popular as they were when they went into production back in the early 1980’s. The simple but brilliant 2CV boxer engine engine give these cars a top speed of around 80mph and the 0-60mph time is far less than many expect it to be. This is due partly to the much reduced weight of the car and as it sits so low to the road, the sensation of speed is increased, making it such great fun to drive.
Nipping along a winding B road or pottering around country lanes is where the car really feels at home. A Lomax will take main roads in their stride as well though, and don’t be surprised to see one on the motorway.
They are fun, but are far from being just toys!
